A private residence featuring views, stone walls, artwork, and a car collection, lighting was integrated within architectural surfaces wherever possible and used to embellish favored features.
A large overhanging slatted ceiling is kept clean from distracting recessed lights and is warmly uplit from sconces and uplights where feasible. Decorative pendants and table lamps provide soft ambiance. Artwork in stairwells and at prominent locations is augmented by adjustable lighting. A linear light is concealed to reveal the folded metal fireplace fascia, and lights above the short living room walls uplight the interior wood ceiling at night.
Of primary importance was the vehicle collection, located within a slick white garage where it was known that any lighting used would produce distracting reflections on shiny surfaces. For this reason, diffuse suspended linear lights are used to provide overall area and work light. Concrete driveway walls are lit by evenly spaced wallwashers.
